A day after promising one SpaceX share to every child in America, Elon Musk spent Monday, Oct. 19, defending the idea on X, collecting thanks from President Donald Trump, and praising European regulators. The desk read every post on his account from 7:06 a.m. PT Monday to 7:06 a.m. PT Tuesday, sorted them by topic, and lists the highlights first, then takes a closer look at the share gift, the topic that dominated.
Highlights. Musk wrote: “Have to give the EU regulators credit where it’s due for making all Apple products use USB-C” (View post on X ↗: same post), then joked in a reply, “USB-C firmware is complex 😂” (View post on X ↗: Musk’s reply, Oct. 19, 7:46 p.m. PT, to @phillipburks, who wrote “Yes, but… 😂”). The Times of India covered the post under the headline “Elon Musk, who wanted the European Union abolished, now praises its regulators.” His most-viewed post came on the first day of early voting in Texas: “Talarico hates Texas” (View post on X ↗: same post), a new post with the same words as one from Sunday, quoting a different compilation of Democrat James Talarico’s remarks.
X’s feed. Musk announced “Two important changes to timeline recommendations”: a “New AI/SI ranking model that predicts probable time spent much better” and a “Retrieval model trained to surface posts people read all the way through.” He added that “User active seconds is growing exponentially” and hitting all-time highs (View post on X ↗: Musk’s own post, Oct. 19, 7:41 p.m. PT); the desk could not check that usage claim. He also wrote: “Rewriting the 𝕏 Android app was also a big deal. It was really bad for such a long time.” (View post on X ↗: Musk’s reply, Oct. 19, 9:11 p.m. PT, to his own earlier post, which said “Two important changes to timeline recommendations: - New AI/SI ranking model that predicts probable time spent much …”).
Grok Bot. The promotion continued: “Grok @Bot might turn out to be your favorite employee” (View post on X ↗: Musk’s quote post, Oct. 19, 9:27 a.m. PT, of @BrianRoemmele, who wrote “Once You Really Grok Bot, You Never Go Back To Non-Grok Bot Once you use Grok Bot enough, it is very difficult to go …”) and “True, try Grok @Bot” (View post on X ↗: Musk’s quote post, Oct. 19, 9:41 p.m. PT, of @KettlebellDan, who wrote “People keep asking me for Grok Bot templates But you can just spin up a new bot and tell it what you need It’s …”). Replying to programmer John Carmack, he wrote: “Grok’s engineering analysis is good” (View post on X ↗: Musk’s reply, Oct. 19, 10:08 p.m. PT, to @ID_AA_Carmack, who wrote “Silly shower thought:”).
Deep dive: the share gift and Trump Accounts. Musk spent the morning backing his overnight pledge. To a user who praised him for “Bypassing the state completely,” he replied: “Yes, giving shares, which are stakes in the future economy, directly to the people is the way” (View post on X ↗: same post). Investor Brad Gerstner, whom CNBC describes as founder of Invest America and Trump Accounts, had called it “the largest philanthropic gift in history” and tagged @TrumpAccounts; Musk answered: “Thanks for helping enable this” (View post on X ↗: Musk’s reply, Oct. 19, 9:25 a.m. PT, to @altcap, who wrote “Incredible Elon! This will be the largest philanthropic gift in history! 70 M accounts - every citizen under 18 & every …”).
In the afternoon President Trump posted: “A BIG THANK YOU to our legendary friend, @ElonMusk, for his incredible generosity in giving SpaceX Stock to millions of American children through TRUMP ACCOUNTS!” (Trump on X, about 17.3 million views). Musk reposted it. Late Monday a user asked him to make sure the default investment option for Trump Accounts “is no longer State Street”; he replied with one word: “Noted” (View post on X ↗: Musk’s reply, Oct. 19, 9:40 p.m. PT, to @TeslaBoomerMama, who wrote “🚨 Before this happens, please ensure the default investment option for Trump Accounts is no longer State Street, …”).
What remains unknown: neither SpaceX nor the Treasury has published how the shares would reach children, when, or under which rules, and CNBC says it asked SpaceX and Musk’s family office for details. Trump’s post names Trump Accounts as the route, and Gerstner suggested the same, but Musk himself has confirmed that route only with short replies.
