Elon Musk spent Friday, Oct. 30, the last day of early in-person voting in Texas, urging a vote against Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico in post after post, and between them he cheered a SpaceX executive’s stock gift to children, praised Google’s first chip test in orbit and pitched Grok Bot as a coworker. This edition covers 7:02 a.m. PT Friday to 7:02 a.m. PT Saturday, lists the highlights first, follows his topics in the usual order, closes with a deep dive on the Texas posts and ends with the videos.
Highlights. Over a video thread of Talarico’s past statements on the filibuster, the Supreme Court and a path to citizenship, he wrote, “This would be the end of democracy in America” (View post on X ↗) and “Talarico would abolish democracy in America and institute permanent one-party rule!” (View post on X ↗). He called Shotwell’s gift “Cool ❤️” (View post on X ↗). And he predicted that orbital computing “probably exceeds terrestrial around the end of 2028” (View post on X ↗).
1. SpaceX and Starlink. Shotwell wrote that she and her husband, Robert, would put “over 2 million shares of SpaceX stock” into children’s Trump accounts in December, with “shares transferring to escrow as we speak,” first for 11- to 17-year-olds in ZIP codes with median family income of $57,000 or less (@Gwynne_Shotwell); Musk replied “Cool ❤️” (View post on X ↗). Teslarati notes that she first announced the pledge on July 6 and, by its own math at about $146 a share, values the 2 million shares at about $290 million (Teslarati). Saturday morning he wrote, “Congrats to the @SpaceX team on over 700 Falcon 9 flights!” (View post on X ↗), and overnight he reposted SpaceX’s launch of 27 Starlink satellites from California (@SpaceX · View on X ↗). To investor Shaun Maguire’s bottoms-up SpaceX model through 2028 he replied, “I think we can do better” (View post on X ↗; @shaunmmaguire · View on X ↗); Maguire’s post adds “This is not investment advice!!!” and notes that Sequoia holds SpaceX shares. He also wrote “True” over a clip of Cathie Wood calling SpaceX “severely undervalued,” in @cb_doge’s summary (View post on X ↗; @cb_doge · View on X ↗), and reposted a December 2008 clip of himself explaining the case for reusable rockets (@teslaownersSV · View on X ↗).
2. Tesla. He posted “Tesla Model Y long wheel base variant” over an owner’s video (View post on X ↗; @DevinOlsenn · View on X ↗), and “Even F1 champions love Tesla self-driving” over Tesla’s post on 2016 Formula One champion Nico Rosberg (View post on X ↗); Sawyer Merritt quotes Rosberg calling FSD (Supervised) “LIFE-CHANGING” (@SawyerMerritt · View on X ↗). He reposted a blind rider’s account of a first Robotaxi trip that “felt unusually normal” (@rlloken · View on X ↗), a clip of NVIDIA’s Jensen Huang calling Tesla’s stack “the most advanced AV stack in the world” (@ResisttheMS · View on X ↗) and Robotaxi’s Halloween video “Bone voyage” (@robotaxi · View on X ↗). To Tesla AI chief Ashok Elluswamy’s “transformers can do anything,” he replied with a GIF (View post on X ↗).
3. X. “You can now find out if any reach limitations have been applied to your account,” he wrote (View post on X ↗). X’s engineering account says its Under the Hood report now lists the specific posts that carry a visibility-limiting label when fewer than 5% of an account’s posts in the period have that label (@XOpenSource; Under the Hood). A French law-firm explainer notes that the report shows each label’s effect, for example a spam label that hides a post “from recommendations to non-followers” (Kohen Avocats). He also reposted X’s Keith Coleman: “You can even see if a legal (eg government) demand is limiting one of your posts, and in which country!!” (@kcoleman · View on X ↗).
4. Neuralink. “Good video about @Neuralink,” he wrote over Sawyer Merritt’s post on Cleo Abram’s visit to the company’s Austin headquarters, where, in Abram’s words, Neuralink unveiled its “Next-Gen R1 surgical robot” (View post on X ↗; @SawyerMerritt · View on X ↗; Blockchain.news).
5. AI and compute. He wrote “Cool” over Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s post that Project Suncatcher’s prototype satellite “ran the prompt, and received our first complete response back on earth - a haiku!” (View post on X ↗; @sundarpichai · View on X ↗). Google’s blog says the satellite launched Oct. 1, ran its Gemma 4 model in orbit, returned “Blue marble below / Data streams in silent grace / Starlight feeds my core,” and that twin satellites follow in 2027 (Google); TechCrunch adds that it carries four TPUs but can run only one at a time, for about 20 minutes (TechCrunch). Replying to a chart of Maguire’s model, he wrote, “Terrestrial compute will be peanuts compared to orbital compute” and “Orbital compute deployed per month probably exceeds terrestrial around the end of 2028 and then far exceeds it in 2029” (View post on X ↗). Saturday he told Spencer Pratt that launching “super intelligence satellites into deep space with a mass driver on the Moon can achieve >>petawatt/year capability” (View post on X ↗). He quoted a story about Larry Page with “I miss Larry Page” (View post on X ↗) and put a rocket emoji under a link to The New Yorker’s essay “Computer Chips Are the Most Magnificent Things Humanity Has Ever Made” (View post on X ↗; The New Yorker). None of these forecasts carries a source beyond his own estimate.
6. Grok Bot and xAI. Quoting a user who said working with Grok Bot “actually feels like you’re talking to a coworker,” he wrote, “Think of Grok @Bot as a work colleague” (View post on X ↗; @0xgaut · View on X ↗). He wrote “Cool” over a free, open-source iPhone shortcut that lets Grok Bot “see what’s on your phone” (View post on X ↗; @everestchris6 · View on X ↗), and reposted a suggestion to use Allo so “your Grok Bot can make calls” (@RyDawg42 · View on X ↗); Allo describes itself as an official plugin in Grok Bot’s marketplace that can set up “your AI receptionist” (Allo). When Robert Scoble asked @Bot to watch for Optimus ordering “coming in December” and “order me one,” Musk replied “No” (View post on X ↗); he did not say whether he meant the December date or the bot placing orders. He answered “Not bad” to a post that “Grok picked the quadrants” (View post on X ↗). Grok Bot’s changelog shows no release in the window; the latest, version 0.78.1, carries an Oct. 27 date (changelog).
7. U.S. politics. Beyond Texas (see the deep dive), he wrote “The Democrat Party is racist against Asians and Whites” over a post contrasting Virginia’s past view of Asian students as “overrepresented” with Spanberger calling a 75% Black cabinet “the most diverse” (View post on X ↗; @kane · View on X ↗), and “Yes” to Sen. Mike Lee’s “Racism is evil regardless of which race is disfavored” (View post on X ↗). He reposted TMZ’s report that Rep. Ilhan Omar’s ex-husband, “rumored to be her brother,” identified himself as gay in an academic paper (@TMZ · View on X ↗); TMZ itself notes the sibling claim “has never been established” and that Omar has denied wrongdoing (TMZ), and Snopes calls the brother claim “unfounded” (Snopes). He replied “True” to Katie Miller’s post that Reid Hoffman “personally bankrolled James Talarico” (View post on X ↗), and on Saturday posted a 42-second video captioned “This is wnat Dems have said they will do!” (View post on X ↗).
8. Europe and the world. He reposted a user who wrote that X’s @GlobalAffairs account, “aka, @elonmusk,” “picked up the legal tab” for his court case and thanked Rebel News (@Polito_loco · View on X ↗); the desk could not confirm the case or the payment. He also shared a post calling Canada an example of “Western civilization” going “backwards” (@UpdatingOnRome · View on X ↗) and one telling readers “You are already at war, whether you recognize it or not” (@Ne_pas_couvrir · View on X ↗).
9. Media and Bill Gates. Replying to Katie Miller’s post that the Gates Foundation sponsors Kara Swisher’s podcast, he wrote, “Gates is funding people who attack me. He still has a massive short position against Tesla” (View post on X ↗). Electric-vehicles.com reports that Musk offered no evidence the short remains open and that Gates has not said whether he closed it; it puts Tesla shares down 2.2% at $394.50 Friday afternoon (eletric-vehicles.com). Earlier this week he posted that Swisher “really wants to go to prison,” and on her podcast she called that “toddler behavior” (New York). He also wrote “True” to a post that said Swisher has “Elon Derangement Syndrome” (View post on X ↗) and “Yes” to a post defending former DOGE staffer Edward Coristine (View post on X ↗).
10. Culture and everything else. To John Carmack’s recollection of early multiplayer gaming he replied, “Yup, my friend and I hijacked our college LAN to play deathmatch” (View post on X ↗). Over Eli Lilly CEO Dave Ricks’s “I’ll take that bet” to investor Vinod Khosla he wrote, “Eli Lilly has some banger drugs coming out!” (View post on X ↗; @DaveARicks · View on X ↗), about 4 million views. He answered “Yes” to a quote attributed to him about “who wrote the software that’s running in their head” (View post on X ↗) and reposted a story about him and his brother Kimbal eating at a Jack in the Box in 1995 (@Alexs_jame · View on X ↗).
Deep dive: the last day of early voting. Texas early voting ended at 7 p.m. Friday (FOX 7 Austin), and Musk opened the day by reposting “Vote today!” calls and polls. He shared posts putting Republican Ken Paxton ahead 49% to 48% (@PpollingNumbers · View on X ↗) and “49.4% to 48.4%” (@RyanAFournier · View on X ↗). FOX 7 reports the underlying Quantus Insights poll of 1,221 likely voters, taken Oct. 26–28 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 points, at 48.7% for Paxton and 47.6% for Talarico, a statistical tie; the desk could not match Fournier’s decimals to a named poll (FOX 7 Austin).
His own lines grew sharper through the day: “Democrats will execute their plan to end democracy in America if they gain control” over a clip of Kamala Harris on revisiting the Electoral College and court expansion (View post on X ↗), “In his own words” over Talarico saying he stays “open to a discussion about expanding the number of justices” (View post on X ↗), “Something seriously wrong with Talarico” over Ted Cruz and Kid Rock discussing Talarico on Bill Maher’s show (View post on X ↗), and on Saturday, “Talarico wants to open the borders and legalize everyone to gain a permanent majority to end democracy in America” (View post on X ↗). He replied with a raised-eyebrow emoji to Townhall, a conservative outlet, which reported that Talarico’s email appears in a 2011 breach of the adult site Fling.com (View post on X ↗; @townhallcom · View on X ↗). Townhall quotes Talarico’s lawyers: “Mr. Talarico never created an account on Fling.com” and the account “was created using a hacked email address,” active “for a grand total of 54 seconds” (Townhall); the desk found no mainstream outlet confirming the report.
What the record shows. The Talarico quotes in posts Musk shared come from older clips that the posting accounts selected; the desk did not review full context for each. Talarico’s own words in those clips concern openness to court expansion and ending the filibuster, not abolishing elections; “end of democracy” and “permanent one-party rule” state Musk’s prediction. The poll he amplified shows a race within the margin of error (FOX 7 Austin). Shotwell’s gift details come from her own post (@Gwynne_Shotwell); the dollar value comes from Teslarati’s estimate (Teslarati). The orbital-compute dates rest on his word alone.
Responses. Supportive: investor Shaun Maguire wrote that Musk wants “to ensure we maintain the balance of power into the future,” and Musk answered “Yes” (View post on X ↗). Critical: Swisher called his prison post “toddler behavior” (New York). Talarico’s lawyers denied the Townhall account (Townhall); the desk found no Talarico campaign reply to Musk’s democracy posts by Saturday morning.
